Can You Drink Tap Water in Krabi?

Tap water in Krabi is not safe for visitors to drink. Municipal and local supplies may be treated, but quality can be affected by local pipes, storage tanks, groundwater conditions and the infrastructure serving individual hotels, guesthouses and islands.

This advice applies in Krabi Town, Ao Nang, Railay Beach, Klong Muang and the surrounding resort areas. Established hotels generally provide complimentary bottled water and may operate their own filtration systems. Bathroom tap water should be used for washing rather than drinking unless a property specifically confirms it is purified.

Island and boat excursions require extra planning. Carry enough sealed water for trips to the Phi Phi Islands, Hong Islands, Chicken Island and other marine destinations. Small boats and beach kiosks may have limited supplies, and prices are usually higher away from the mainland.

Use bottled or purified water for drinking and brushing teeth. Tap water is suitable for showering. At established tourist restaurants and resorts, food preparation and commercial ice generally rely on purified water. At informal stalls or remote beach vendors, ask about the source or request drinks without ice.
